Our next Concert

Madrigals, Fairies & Queens

Diversity Choir is pleased to announce its summer concert celebrating the 350th anniversary of Baroque composer Henry Purcell together with British classical and contemporary composers.

Saturday 27 June 7.30pm and Sunday  28 June 6.00pm
St. Paul’s Church, Covent Garden, London

Audiences will be treated to extracts from Purcell’s 17th Century masque or semi-opera The Fairy Queen, an eclectic and diverse repertoire of 16th Century madrigals such as Sweet Honey Sucking Bees; extracts from Benjamin Britten’s 20th Century post-modern masque/choral dances from Gloriana; and a 21st Century rendition of Erasure’s A Little Respect, specifically and exclusively arranged for Diversity.

Andrea Brown, Musical Director of Diversity and Artistic Director of Various Voices says of the repertoire:

“We are proud to be singing such an innovative programme, reflecting the masque form but with both early and contemporary references to age-less emotions which affect us all.  Love, passion and heart-break are explored with a diverse range of repertoire spanning four centuries, keeping true, however, to Purcell’s entertaining masque, The Fairy Queen”

A charity raffle with some fantastic prizes will be held in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. For more details of the charity please visit www.macmillan.org.uk
